Folks, I don't mind telling you that judging this contest was an emotional experience for me.
Hearing some of your stories of your pets really got to me, probably because I am absolutely PASSIONATE about animal rights! I cannot stand to see or even hear of an animal being abused. And neglect IS a form of abuse.
All you have to do to understand is to put yourself in their place.
And PLEASE, my friends, remember this AND spread this to as many people as you can: IF YOU CAN FEEL IT, PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL, SO CAN THEY! And they DO think and hope and wish and love and in their own way, they cry.
I would just love to have 5 minutes alone with that S.O.B. who tied his mule to the back of his truck and dragged it down a graveled road until all its skin was gone. The vet had to put it to sleep because it was in such pain and too badly hurt to recover.
I still have nightmares about that news story. That is the closest I have ever come to true hate!
Well, I hope you will excuse me for the above, but I had to get it off my chest and who better than you to do it with?
NOW! THE WINNERS ARE:

This little doggie prayer sums it all up!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer use to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my God and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I would not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me a merciful eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands..... |

Spookth, Spookth,
You just had to bring real tears to this rough 'n tough grown man's eyes, didn't you?
Thank you. I needed it.
I think it should be required reading for every human being!
Because frankly, I have known several dogs that were far more humane than several humans I have known.
It really makes you stop and think about this "superior" species of ours.
Your touched deeply Guru |

oh you could not be so right poker Guru and that prayer is so true in my eyes as I also am a big animal lover and would take them over alot of human beings I have met. |

Nothing in the world angers me more or more quickly than abuse of animals or children.
I could fill up a couple of paragraphs easily but I will refrain and instead say... you pull my heartstrings spookth Thank You
and congrats to all the winners and one was even me! |

Can you believe such a gentle-hearted bunch of poker players?
Is it any wonder I love them and feel such a kinship with them?
I am so glad we all found one another!

Dear Guru and Dear Friends ~
I think this contest touched us all in ways we did not expect. I just wonder how many of us were brought to tears? As for myself, I had a loooong cry when I read spookth's Doggie Prayer.
I hope that most of you remember my dear companion, my doggie, Dreamer, who was by my side always for 15 years. I shall never ever forget her, as she lies at rest now in the flower garden that she and I together dug up the soil for. She even helped me cover up the bulbs.
That dog TRAINED HERSELF to take care of me far more than a seeing-eye dog takes care of the blind.
I hope you all remember her, wearing her red bandana always, refusing to go out without it, because I want her memory to live forever.
It has been almost two years and I still am not ready to have another, altho I am lost without a doggie. Dreamer is still too much with me.
Thank you for allowing me to share this story again.

i did however forget to mention that i hope the son of b that tortured his mule that way, goes thru the same kind of treatment some day only 10 times worse!!! i know we are supposed to be able to forgive others but for something like that i ABSOLUTELY CANNOT!!!no living creature should ever have to suffer that way,it truly makes me sick!! |

We can share the same sick room, Cindy. That son of a b would not last long with his own skin intact if he were to get lost and stray into the midst of us Poker Crushers!
I would love to help our Guru with his 5 minutes alone with the bastard.
