Unless I have position, most of the time, I don't. Some people like to limp with A rag or K rag. Once in a while, this produces a nice win, but overall, it's a negative value proposition.

Its abit late by now beckie, you may know all this by now.
im not a great lover of suited hole cards, unless there high card connectors, and then it comes down to position, who your playing with & most off all your chip stack, theres no point calling with A-8 A-9 suited UTG if theres 4-5 players to bet with bigger stacks than you.

You may want to play it like C(JESUS)F , if your going too play them in an early pos,n play them hard and fast (as in all-in)
BUT remember pre-flop any high cards connected or not are out beat by a little old pair of 2s.

my second way is to sit back and let the hand unfold, always watching the other players reactions & betting, my way of thinking is K-Q rules in the land of an unraised pot, whether suited or not.
to many players see suited cards as a flush, the hole cards dont even make up half your hand,
theres still 5 more cards to come and you need to hit 3 of them, AND then
have you got the nut flush when you do hit.

So depending on the other players i'll play them very hard (if high suited)

mid suited connected- as cheap as possible, to see a cheap or free flop.

as for 4-5 5-6 up to 8-10 suited i treat them all like a A-rag, I'll just sit back and watch the hand develope.
As for your 2nd Q, a rag card is a card that is off little or no help to you
IE: K-2,3,........8 the lower card being your rag card, UNLESS SUITED, and it comes back to position, opponents & your stack size,
you can't bully in an position without the stack to pull it of.

I hope that explains it a little,,,,, im now just going too change my name as all the forum know how i play, OR AM I BLUFFING

However after all that, is it value for money, are you getting good odds
FOLD EQUITTY is always the key factor with any hand,if your getting good pot odds for alittle out lay go for it.

any more help try reading "slansky or super system(DB).
But at the end of the day we all play our hands different.
just remember "winning with the best hand does not make you a great player",
"its winning with the worst possible hands thats what make you a great player" Smile

Darlin' Beckie ,

Honey, aren't you glad your Guru is a good teacher who knows how to explain something so it can be learned?

Some guys like to put on an exhibition with their first interest in doing so NOT to make you understand, but to impress you.

Forget what has been said above. If I had had even an hour of sleep last night, I would answer your question now.

As it is, I hope you can wait a few hours while I grab a nap.

BY THE WAY, POKER PROS DO NOT TALK THAT WAY!

Is my point made clear enough?

BLA4 DES!!!! Your fellow Crusher was asking for HELP, not a performance! These Crushers know I always have to say exactly what I think and I do not have time to mince words.

So I must say, I am a little disappointed in how you "helped" your sitemate. We are a team here. Not individual stars.

Would you like to try again, this time with your primary purpose being to HELP her?

Of course, it is your choice to volunteer or not.

Beckie, If he does not, I will answer your question after while. Don't worry about it. Just remember you came in #1 out of 240 last week!

Your Guru

Sorry Guru, yes your right im not a poker pro, and it was not meant to be a lesson.
beckie ask for help how to play suited cards, this is the way I play them
you and everyone else at the table may play them different, it wouldnt make sense for us all to play the same.

However the more information you gather from a variety of players can only stack in your favour.
without offence how would you play them & explain how to play them
but at the end of day it will still be only your opinion.

ok beckie, i like to play an Ace with any picture card suited big pre flop
so i bet them big to scare some weaker players out of the pot, but once the flop turns i still keep betting even when ive not hit still hoping my big cards are winning.
from 7 too 10 suited, i will play any of these two cards in a late position to see the flop if its cheap enough, as these 4 cards offer me so many outs.
but just because there suited i dont get married to them, unless there big, best get rid.

it is better to keep ones mouth shut and appear dumb,
than to open it and remove all doubt.

BL4DES:

I invited you into our site with one of the warmest greetings I offer anyone. I am asking you politely now not to be a thorn in my side. I am a very busy man and I don't have time for it.

I have instructed my PCers in the way best suited to their learning well enough to internalize and never forget what they learn. My evaluation of how to do that is based on several years as a college professor with a great deal of learning methods research. It is also based on my career and my own learning as a now very successful poker professional.

My unique method, unlike any you will find in any poker textbook, has served them very well for a couple of years now. Not one of them has ever complained and they are all becoming consistent winners.

In an atmosphere we have all together created, one of serenity, peace, security, and easygoing relaxation, we are all very happy, as well as proud, with the way things have been for two years -- a way that we now are beginning to reap the fruits of, which gives our close-knit group a mood of collective joy and harmony. Two years.

You have been here for two days. In that time you have critisized my timing with my scholars and taken it upon yourself to ACTUALLY TRY TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO! You have ridiculed my need for sleep.

I realize that you do not have even one job. I choose to have three because they make me very happy, being somewhat of a workaholic and loving the work that I do.
I realize you did not know, when I said I needed a nap before undertaking any more instruction, that I work 36-hour shifts and I work seven days a week. For someone who does not work, it may be difficult for you to understand that at the end of each thirty-six hours, I truly need five to seven hours of sleep.

I ask you not to ridicule me for that again. In fact, I ask you not to interfere with the way we have run things and are still running things here in general. That includes joy in our relationships with one another. IT ALOWS FOR ABSOLUTELY NO ARGUMENTATIVE OR ATTENTION-SEEKING BEHAVOR. We just don't need it! Particularly, I don't need it because I had enough of that while teaching in the public schools before moving on to teach in university settings. I don't need it so much that I simply will not tolerate it, which is why I try to get things settled and over with as soon as they arise.

I find it to be perfectly reasonable to expect you to adapt to our ways, rather than coming in here and expecting us to change to your challenging and argumentative ways.

If I seemed harsh with you in order to avoid any further disturbances, that is my right because I am the one who leads and who runs this site. You, as a guest, do not have that right. I hope you can understand that as an unwritten rule that goes back in history for as long as their have been instructor-led groups of any kind.

Now, as I said, you remain welcome. But I must ask you to do a few things first. Please finish filling out your profile page, just like everyone else. The only information you gave us was your gender and your birthday. And yes, we give bonuses for birthdays, but it would be nice to know who we are giving them too.

Being a lifetime scholar of human behavior myself, something clicked with me when I first saw your avatar. It cemented itself when I saw your signature, which was used by someone who was banned from this site. I couldn't help but notice that you spent 24 hours here at the site during your first 48 hours, making 21 visits. I haven't been back to work to check any further because I have this extra work to do here taking care of this little matter, which is taking time away from my regular members. Instead of typing this, I would much rather be getting a contest out there for them. I am not much in favor of deliberate distractions.

BL4DES, I truly hope you can adapt to our ways and RELAX among us. But even more, I hope you are not a man with a mission in coming here.

I must also ask you not to spam me anymore by P.M. to sign up at a site which I have another clicking suspicion you just might be an affiliate for.

Please remember that I have been put in charge of running this forum as I see fit. That is what I have done and what I shall continue doing.

I hope you can see fit to fit in instead of standing out in the manner you have thus far.

There are many rewards for you here. So I hope you will realize that what I am saying is in your own best interest. I shall not engage in further debate with you, as I do not debate any of my members. I view you as no better and no worse than any other PCer, just a lot newer with more of our ways to learn, gracefully I hope.

Your official host, professional coach, and PokerGuru

That last post was one step too far over the line, son.

If you read my long post to you, too bad you cannot comprehend what you read.

To repeat: I have been charged with running this site as I see fit (which I see as being in the best interest of my members), and that is exactly what I have been doing, what I am now doing, and what I shall continue to do.

As a peaceful, serene, joyful, and harmonious site, which provides the best learning environment and the most pleasure for all, argumentative debate is outlawed and out the door. Period.
