2008 WSOP and Your Guru

This year, for the first time, the Final Table for the WSOP Main Event - to determine the world Champion of Poker - will not be played until November.

I am heartbroken to report to my PCers that again this year, I will not be bringing the Championship home to Poker Crush.

July 14th, in the midst of our birthday festivities, while I was staying with you by means of my laptop computer, I was at my keyboard in my hotel room in Nevada. On that day, a fateful Monday for me, I played my last day in the WSOP because I was knocked out by a better player, ending my chance to make the Final Table this year.

I apologize for waiting this long to report to you about it, but I did not want my pro playing to interfere with our own happy celebration of our third year, which signified to me that the Poker-Crush Forum was here to stay! After three years, of me getting to know you and you getting to know me, and us getting to know one another to a remarkable degree, I am convinced we willbe here for as long as you members want us to be! Furthermore, no matter what happens with my pro playing career,I will be here with you for as long as you will have me!

Now at this time, I think I should wait no longer to bring you up to date about my "other" world.

I have only respect for the players who are going on without me to the Final Table of the 2008 WSOP.

The thing I find most remarkable about them is that they could have been any one of you....because an unusual thing has happened this year. The players who will be making up the Final Table are not big well-known stars!

Six of the nine ARE pro players, but not very well known ones. The other three have never played professionally! And virtually all the members of the Final Table are online players! Just like you, if I can convince you to start playing at the ring tables, which is the next step up for the great majority of you!

In the next few days, I will be talking to you about this year's WSOP.

This post today is just to let you know that I played my best, with a VERY strong hope of bringing that World Championship home to you, the Poker Crushers! But it just didn't happen.

However,PCers, I think you would have been happy with my playing.

AND.....there is always NEXT year!

This has been a personal report from me to you, the best associates any poker player could hope to have.

GURU ,
if ive learned anything in my life it is always always always hold your head high!
you could have been first out and you know that all and i mean ALL your pc'ers would stand with you and be proud that you went as far as you did!!!
i hope ....no i know! that i do not speak for myself but for all pc'ers when i say congratulations for making it so far and as you said there is always next year ( chip and a chair rofl)

ok here is maybe a silly question. I have been looking over the WSOP web page. I am just confused. Do you buy-in to the events of your choice, or by winning one event you get a seat in then next, or what? There are alot of events, do you have to go through them all? Could you possibly explain it maybe my dear Guru. Pretty much in the date you put down finishing it was event #54 Day 7. Did you win your way through other events first or how does it work? it has my interest peaked since alot of amatures finished so well. lol.

BTW WTG on your finish it was still very good even if you didn't make the final table. Thanks

Guru,we are all so proud of your accomplishments at every WSOP.You will achieve the final table in time because a player of your caliber belongs there.As you teach,patience and persistence will get you there.
As for bringing home the Championship,we are all already champions thanks to your great lessons and it takes a champion to make champions.
You're #1 in our books Guru!!!!

Guru......I am sorry you feel disappointed. I KNOW you will go-get-'em next year and probably many more to come!!!!

I have so many things to thank you for, I wouldn't even know where to begin.....

You are so inspiring and caring. If it weren't for ALL the things I've been priveleged to learn from your guidance, I wouldn't be able to play (even on-line) poker at all!!

Now to answer your very good questions!

About all the many events: Yes, you can choose the events you want to enter, but there are many steps in EACH event that you do have to compete your way up thru and could be eliminated at any step. Once eliminated, you cannot rejoin that event for a full year.

It costs a good bit to enter each event. $10,000 to enter the Main Event, which is the one that determines the World Champion. That is to enter at the very beginning, knowing you could be knocked out at any stage along the way up to the Final Table.

BUT -- if you are good enough and seen playing either in casinos OR online often enough, some big company will eventually pick you up to endorse them. In return, they will sponsor you, paying your entrance fees and often all your expenses! One word of caution: Be careful who you are willing to endorse because it means your reputation! Another word of caution: NEVER ask any company to sponsor you! They hate that and they assume you are not very good if you have to go SEEKING sponsors. So you could, and many do, hurt yourself and your future badly by ASKING for sponsorship. Like evertthing else in poker, you must just have patience and then sooner or later, once they see you have the endurance and are not just a flash to be here today and gone tomorrow -- someone WILL be first to approach you!

Guru, win or lose, you are an inspiration in how you handle both wins and losses with honest evaluation, humility, grace and dignity. And in the end, isn't that the most important thing poker can teach us? Thank you for you continued teaching in the game of poker...and life.

BTW I saw alotof those guys birthdates, aren't they supposed to hit puberty first lol. Wow alot of young people in there.
