Hi everyone,
I've always been told never to show my card's win or lose, which is what I do, yet I see a lot of people showing there card's.
Maybe it's kiddology or showboating.
Or maybe just to say "ha ha, fooled you"
Do you muck or show your card's and why? |

Good question Al!!! I would like input on this from the Guru myself.
For me...if I am at a table and we are into some high money and someone called a large bet I just made and they lost I will show my cards (I feel it's a respect thing) BUT I do not do it all the time..if I am playing against a loud mouth..then..they see nothing.
Now...I feel that sometimes..if you show a "good hand" a couple of times then when you go to bluff it "seems" more believable that you "just might have a good hand"...I do this sometimes too ( I know the Guru is going to repremand me for that one )
I am sure I didn't help much...it's just what I do.

ALW,as far as showing or not showing goes, I don't think its any different than most strategies in Hold'em. There is no absolute right or wrong, other than to show your cards too often. I will from time to time show my cards if the situation warrants it. For instance, if I'm in a hand with a player that I've played against regularly and know him or her to be a skilled player, we've both put a large amount of chips into the pot, I've pushed All-in and after consideration he layed down....then yes I'll let them know that it was a good lay-down. This also gives your periodic bluffs a little believability. Alternately...if I'm in against an obnoxious big mouth that is constantly badgering everyone and ruining the game, If I catch the nuts and manage to get him to lay down , he gets to see nothing. That being said, I probably show my cards 4 or 5 times a week. |

ALW and all my PokerCrushers,
I find no fault with either Beckie or Spookth's answers. In fact, I feel a great deal of respect for them!
However, as a general rule, I almost always, with rare exceptions the same as Beck and Spook's, muck my cards. After all, when you show them, what you are really doing is showing your opponents how you play!
Good thinking always,
Your PokerGuru |
