January Poker Thinking for CASH

Stop Bluffing!

Or at least save that particular weapon for the right spot, and don’t abuse it. Televised tournaments and poker movies make it seem that the bluff is the coolest and deadliest weapon in poker. If you bluff too much, your opponents will eventually figure you out. Bad players sometimes refuse to fold no matter what when they get a particular starting hand and your bluff will just end up losing you money. Also, some players are intent on playing sheriff or bluff catcher and love calling down with anything from bottom pair, to ace high just to “keep you honest”.

While bluffing has it’s place, the inexperienced player uses it way too much, and if they never bluffed once, could probably still be a winning poker player. Again, bluffing is a complicated and tricky thing, and if you rarely use it, you will probably be better off.

Remember these poker tips before you even sit at the table, remember to have the right amount of money, pick the right poker games, and make sure your head’s right before you play. And when you do get there, never forget the basics. Wait for good hands, observe the other players, and stop bluffing so much.

Everyone commenting will be in a random draw for 2 x $3 in prizes.

I don't think I'm a bluffer. I am not sure enough about things to bluff. But then again maybe I do LOL

omg...thanks for this commentary lol...i think televised poker has kinda ruined it for the true poker players....i think so many "novice" players think it is so cool to bluff-but i must say there's nothing better than sitting watching that bluffer lose it all, hahahaha!!!! and as for online tourneys....i wanna slit my wrists when i get stuck with those super crappy bluffers....now i'm not saying there is the RIGHT time and place for the bluff, but I want to see that look on the guys face when they go DAMN that bitch just bluffed the *please do not swear* out of me haha

I think I dislike it the most when I have a good hand, and bet,
then most everyone folds, because I rarely, if ever bluff.......
...but, then again, you never know,
there is a first time for everything....lol

I'm no good at bluffing face to face, that is one of the reasons I thought I should stay away from it. Good news that it's best to not do it a lot... Very Happy

LoL I have been bluffing a few times and it is pretty fun. I don't do it very often cause by bluffing you have to think of it as a loss on that hand unless your lucky if other folds...lol. I do think that some of the players at the PC tourney on weds bluff more than they should..lol and yet am not willing to challenge them...lol. If no one bluffed I think this game would be kinda boring , bluffing gets your blood pumping...lol. good topic thanks Smile

Great advice! Smile I was also hoping next poker thinking contest might be about how to play pocket 10s? I seem to remember a post about that a while back, but that hand keeps tripping me up...

It probably is best for most players to avoid bluffing at all. It is extremely difficult to pull it off. Not many have the unique talent necessary to be a successful bluffer !!!

I bluff rarely. Just depends, but I sure get very nervous. So, I am sure face to face the other person can probably tell. LOL
