"My luck is so bad that if I bought a cemetery, people would stop dying."
...................Ed Furgo
Aren't you glad, poker scholars, that poker does NOT depend on luck......but on knowledge of the game and on the LEARNED art of how to play every hand, good or bad?!
If any new members need an explanation of this philosophy, please JUST ASK in a post, right here in this thread. I would be glad, AND SO WOULD MY POKER SCHOLARS, to explain why this is true! |

I agree with you Guru - that's why I'm allowing myself to spend so much time playing poker online, whereas I pretty much stay away from all other gambling games - except for special occasions! (Or momentary lapses in judgment and/or self-restraint!)
However, that said, I do still find that poker too involves too much luck. I've justified it because it's obvious to me that skill plays such a large part too, but you can't deny that luck is sometimes all it takes to win a hand, or more rarely, to win an entire tournament.
When I see some all-iner winning a huge pot with lousy cards when others in the pot had great starting cards, that's when I resent most the unfortunately large role that luck can play in the game.
As I've heard others say when things like that happen, they might as well be playing Bingo - in fact, now whenever someone pulls off an undeserved win like that, I always say "Bingo!" into the chat! Sure, sometimes you'll get lucky and bingo, but as I've also heard many times before, that's just not poker!
What it is usually is what I like to call freeroll crapshoot - which is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME ALTOGETHER. Do not get the two games confused (that's what I always want to remind these people.) I try to play only poker, not bingo or crapshoot, etc. Wish there were some way to keep that kind of playing out of the game of poker, but I guess... that's poker!
Thanks for the posts!
