COUNTDOWN APPROACHES FOR POKER-CRUSH BLAST-OFF

A big hello and a bigger smile to all members of Poker-Crush! Have you noticed, my friends, the smooth cruising speed we are gaining as more and more of you are signing up to become Poker Crushers?! Yes, things are starting to feel like they do when a hush comes over the crowd as they realize it is just about time for the fuses to be lit to send the fireworks skyrocketing upward......no one knows exactly the size or color of the first explosive events......but they know, with great anticipation, that those events will bring forth a chorus of ooooooooooh's and ahhhhhhhhhhh's!

They know because that's the way Geno does things! When he and his staff get their heads together and decide to come up with a new surprise to delight the Crusher membership......well, what can I say except Katie, bar the door and get ready!

You guys and gals, as well as I, have to be aware of a lot of "getting ready" going on. You heard (or read) Da Man himself say it......"Watch out for more Neteller CASH CONTESTS, freerolls, and buy-in tourneys here at Poker-Crush."

I, myself, am preparing, in advance, a list of poker- related questions to toss out to you. Some will be silly, some not-so-silly. For some the answers will be pretty well-known. For some the answers might be a challenge to you. But one thing you can be sure of - they will all add to your knowledge and make you feel more and more familiar and comfortable in the poker world.

As an extra added benefit, of course, there will have to be a prize for the first to post an answer. A correct answer, that is. LOL We like easy contests, but the line's gotta be drawn SOMEwhere!

I'll throw out a real easy one right now as an example of that kind, although they all will be very different. EXAMPLE: In a deck of poker cards, which king is the only one without a moustache?

Sooooo......You all, too, have a bit of "getting ready" to do. Having a deck of poker cards handy would be a good idea for this and many other questions. Remember, the first answers posted win the prizes!

The creation and operation of a new web site usually moves at a snail's pace. In Poker-Crush's case, we are beginning to pick up a little speed as more and more members arrive and sign up. Members are kinda important, you know!

I will admit to dragging my feet a bit with the poker lessons. There really is method in my madness there. I remember what it was like to be a late arrival and find myself seeming to be always behind the others and trying to catch up. Especially when most, but not all, of us were beginners in whatever the subject happened to be. So I, too, am watching closely as our membership grows, trying hard to contain my excitement about the things to come!

I will, of course, be more than glad to answer any questions, no matter where you are along the line of advancement as a poker player! And I will try to get your questions answered as quickly as possible after you post them. I will also make a valiant attempt to be more regular in this, my weekly feature post. I will try posting on the same day each week, but never at the same hour! Why not? Well, with my question contests in mind, I realize that some of you have more time than others, even if your fervor for being a winner is equal. So to illustrate my reasoning, think about those avid fishermen who know exactly when the state stocking truck is scheduled to arrive at each fishing stream.
Okay? Fair?

If, at any time, I write something that you think is unfair, or not clear, remember that this is, after all, a forum! That means your comments are not only welcomed, but also appreciated. Speaking of appreciation, I will try to find your comments no matter where they are on the site, but it sure would be much better for me, as well as easier, if you post any questions or comments right here beneath my own post.

That takes my wandering mind back to last week. Winnie, my little darlin', how pleasant it was to hear from you again! I decided to address your concern in this spot because I had so many questions along those same lines this week. The matter of confidence seems to be on the minds of several of you. My comments about that apply to each of you!

Yes, I could indeed give you confidence by just handing it out. But I refuse to do that. It wouldn't wear very well on you. But more important than that is the fact that you don't need me to. Your confidence as a winner among poker players is laying in the road up ahead of you, and not all that far! It is just laying there, waiting for you to catch up with it. Which you will do, with a bit of stick-to-it-iveness and by trying to remember (by way of the 2 notebooks I suggested to you - one for study notes and one for win/loss money records) by trying to remember the main concept of each of my weekly posts on the art of playing good poker.

If, in one notebook, you read over from time to time the things you considered important enough to write down, those points will gradually become a natural part of your playing that you don't even have to think about at the time you are playing! And as those points and concepts grow in number, you grow as a winner in a very natural way, almost without even realizing it - which is the reason for your second notebook. Remember? The one in which you keep track of every penny won and lost as time goes by. That second notebook is the one you will think you lost track of......until you find it in the not-so-distant future - laying beside the road up ahead. You will pick it up, open it up, and recognizing what is right there in black and white, guess what will jump out at you! Of course! Your confidence! And you will have built it yourself, by your own effort, and it will look and feel just right on you!

You will just have to trust me about that. And here is something that might make it easier to put your trust in what I say (in addition to the fact that I trust my own advice and I win consistently enough to make a pretty darn good living.) The "something" that might make it easier to trust me comes in the form of a very wise experiment performed by one of your fellow PokerCrushers, notLOL, who has won my respect as an excellent student of the game. She, herself, related her experience to me.

Seems that notLOL decided to take me to task by putting the point of one of my lessons to the test. Remember when I said, "Don't ever bet on what card or cards you MIGHT get, no matter how likely you think you are to get them!
Instead, bet ONLY on the cards you ALREADY HAVE! The results will CONSISTENTLY prove to be positive, even though it will mean that you will start folding more often......instead of hanging in there, throwing away your money in the hope that the cards you need for a BEAUTIFUL hand will be dealt. By the way, this the perfect time to add to your vocabulary the word "nuts" as it applies to poker. The "nuts" are the cards a player is holding that are almost certain to be the winning hand! And to further your vocabulary - if for some unlikely reason the "nuts" are beaten by a hand that was made with the dealing of the last card, a hand that the odds for were something like a million to one, then the holder of the nuts suffered a "bad beat"! Bad beats are often compensated by the "house" with some amount of chips or cash as a token of sympathy because it really was a BAD beat! A terrible way to lose a hand that should have belonged to the holder of the nuts!

So back to NotLOL's test......she played almost all day, sticking to my teaching without exception no matter what! By the end of the day, she was convinced and changed the way she played from then on. NotLOL will tell you to trust your guru's words!

Her experiment also backed up my position that poker is a game of SKILL and has almost nothing to do with luck! And just think: Good or bad luck cannot be taught or learned, whereas skill in ANYthing CAN be taught and learned!

And that is my contribution to the building of your confidence......and my final word on it (for the time being). LOL

I will "see" you all next week.

Thank you for the privilege of allowing me to be

ohh Guru there you are....been waiting patiently for your post. Thank you very much for taking notice in my efforts to be a good student. with the exeperiment which i compiled all my playing that day i came up with, ok you have good cards in your hand lets say QK unsuited, then on the flop A 3 4, i check, someone else bets , i will fold for i dont care to pay for a fishing trip. i have seen where i couldve stayed in and won, though like i said , i dont care to pay for the fishing trip. because more times than not you will see the fish arent biting.
going by Gurus advice and the tips and such in the forum here my game has improved. i have recently made it to 3rd place in freeroll. ive been getting to tenth and sixth more often than not. where i play in these freerolls the pay for 1-9 th places. with my wins i accumulated enough to go play on the real money tables. 2 dollars is necessary to join the game, when i got up to 2.97 , i joined the real money games and now im up to 17 dollars. now you tell me if the Guru doesnt know his game. i found that i am checking alot more than ever, seems to work for me so far. seems i set a pretty good trap. what ever that means. guess its because i check even when im holding a 10 and 8 , and on the flop 10, 8,10 flop out, someone will place a bet and i raise, and they raise to an all in......ooops so i all in as well, only because to cover their all in, i have to. guess what my boat won. so i guess thats considered a trap.
well anywho.....thank you Guru! and i bought two new notebooks to use when i play. only at the land casinos, its not appropriate....so i was told.lmao.
said something about counting cards and such......WHAT
