Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share this with you, if I may,

I was feeling confident at the poker table's recently, due to some good form in the $2-$5 Sit & Go's
So muich so, that I began to wonder what kind of money was on offer at the $10-$20 S & G's
I took one look at a $20+2 S & G, mumbled something like, " WOW ! " and then entered it, why not ?
My hand's began sweating fear as the table filled up, then came the first deal.
I was dealt my 2 hole card's, then a third, then a fourth,
" Whoah , what's going on, " At first I thought the Poker software was faulty, then the realisation hit me like a sledgehammer,
I'd entered a $20+2 Omaha PL Hi/Lo tourney,
" Awwwwww noooo, surely I haven't. "
" Awwwww sh*t I have, what an absolute idiot.
I've hardly played the game, mainly because I'm so bad at it.
Which proved exactly right, as I was dumped out after the first hand.
I sat there fuming, I felt like I'd been robbed.

Then for some unknown reason, a little tune came into my head,
I put some word's to it, and I wrote this short poem about my misfortune.

.......IT' S.....O M A H A.....

THIS ISN'T TEXAS HOLD 'EM, IT'S OMAHA,
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY IT,
I WON'T GET VERY FAR,
I WILL HAVE TO GO AND PRACTICE,
SO I CAN EARN MY STAR,
THIS ISN'T TEXAS HOLD 'EM, IT'S OMAHA.

Alan

I did that once too though not for that kind of money LOL it was a freeroll. I had NO CLUE how to play but I thought what the heck try to make some good hands. I lasted for about 10 rounds which impressed myself but eventually of course I got booted out.

Hi Valeria,

Well done, it's a fair effort,

I never play that much usually. I had a rush of blood and got a little to focused on the prizemoney, rather than the type of game.
When I entered the tourney, it was so exciting waiting for the table's to fill up, but it ended up as one big anti climax which ended up with me leaving in a red mist, swearing & cursing my stupidity

I found one good thing that has helped me immensely no matter what game I play.

While playing forget the money big or small. Play not for the pot but play your cards the best you can. If you concentrate on your cards and what your doing.. not get excited or intimidated by the size of the pot but play your cards to the best of your ability..... you will come out a winner.

I think many new players are scared and insecure because of players or pots they forget about playing their cards. And in tournies... forget there are 300 or 500 or 1000 players and just concentrate on the 10 players sitting at your table at that moment. Keeping a clear head on what your doing not what everyone else is doing.

I wasn't telling this to you ALW but just voicing my opinion in general to everyone. LOL

Hi Valeria,

Thank You so much for your advice on this matter, which I both appreciate and value greatly.
I'm in no doubt whatsoever that you are absolutely right.
If I hadn't been so distracted by the prizemoney, I would have noticed that I'd entered the wrong game.
Another lesson learned.
Thank You,

Alan

I also applaud you, Val!

Seems also like I learned the very same thing along the line.

Now where do you suppose we learned that? ROFLMAO!!!!

I can spot a PCer anytime by how they play!

Your friend (and ALW's)
