Hello to my cool PCers!

I have been scratching my head, wondering what best I could do to teach poker to our beginning members without having to repeat lessons that our advanced members have already studied until they are second nature to them.

I have decided on a series of frequent mini lessons and tips that will be of great value to beginners and also serve as reminders to the advanced.

This is the first in that series.

WHEN TO HOLD AND WHEN TO FOLD

As a general rule, whether you are playing in a tournament or at a ring table (a regular table at a poker site, that you choose), you should fold about 3 out of every 4 hands. Keep and play only the very best hole cards (those 2 cards you are dealt that no one but you sees). Like Aces and face cards and pairs of the same number.

After you have folded a hand, you are not finished. While the others are playing, you should be studying each one of them (maybe even taking notes for when you play them again). Learn their usual habits because we all have them. Notice if they raise a lot or not; if they call the bluffs of others often or not; if they bluff themselves a lot or never; if they fold about 3 times out of 4 or not; if they bet small or big; and anything else that will help you know what they are up to during the game.

The things you learn about them are called "tells". It tells on them to you and that helps you decide whether to call, check, fold, or raise them after they make a bet.

How well you study the other players' actions and habits is right up there near the top of how good a player you can become.

Just because you fold 3 out of 4 hands does not mean that you will be bored! If you are to become a top player, there is much to do after you fold.......and until the next hand is dealt, you should NEVER become bored.

If someone says poker is too boring, that means they know far too little about poker! You will be kept busy all the time if you are poker educated.

You should also spend some of that folded time to try to determine if certain card combinations seem to come up more often at each site.......and each site will be different!

This is one reason I advise you to have 2 notebooks for online poker. One to keep notes about other players and about individual poker sites. The other to keep track of every cent you win or lose.

By following my guidelines, you will be able to see your progress as you learn more and more. AND YOU WILL!

This mini lesson has been presented after proven by experience from

Your ever-lovin Guru

Hi mirrors ~

I run into people like that too. My opinion is that they just need a little enlightenment, mind expansion, and poker education from our Guru!

Whatcha think? Anybody. I imagine we all run into them.

P.S. Guru, I think your mini lessons are a stroke of genius!
