Not to put a downer on anyones day but I am upset.
Last night my little cuddle bear (my cat) was hurt by another animal. I heard the fight start outside my door and opened the door to stop it and rescue her but they had moved off in this very dark area I couldn't see in.
It was a deadly fight as cats usually make a lot of noise when they fight but there was not a sound except I could here the bodies flopping around in the leaves.
I had NO FLASHLIGHT and it was pitch black back there. I tried going as close as I dared in the dark calling her only to hear the leaves and bodies wrestling.
I did not know what got her. I assume another cat but it could have been a dog or anything. As much as I wanted to save her I didn't dare go in there in the pitch black not being able to see friend or foe.
Anyway I was up all night calling her and calling her and imagining her laying seriously injured and me not able to find her. The light of day never came so slow to where I could go look for her. She has never missed one night sleeping with me.
I finally found her sitting on top of an outside fireplace ledge. She was not responding to me at all. I could not reach her. 3 hours later, I finally got my daughters boyfriend who is tall to get her. She wouldn't let him touch her so he grabbed her by the neck and dragged her down. I wrapped her in a towel then all hell broke loose. She was clawing and biting anything she could reach, which thankfully was the towel I had wrapped on her.
I really think she has broken or cracked ribs because I finally got her inside and she slunk to a corner and laid down and was very still. Thank goodness her back is not broken because she did walk herself to a corner.
She has been laying in one spot all morning and I am afraid to try and touch her yet.
Of course I can't afford a vet or even have a way to get her there.
I don't want her in pain and I think she is able to recover. I just don't know what to do about her ribs. Don't know if they are cracked or broken or maybe she just got bit really bad and they are extremely sore. I have not noticed any blood on her or her bleeding on the floor.
I can only hope she doesn't have internal injuries but for some reason I really don't think so.
Do you think it is safe to just let her lay there and sleep for a few days. At least she is now opening her eyes and looking at me very sleepily. She is more aware than last night but still out of it from shock or pain I am sure.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I will keep you updated when I can. |

Hi,
OMG Valeria, I would be just as upset and worried as you are...the poor kitty...hun I know you said you can't afford a Vet but I really thinks she needs to be seen...what if there are internal injuries...I'm sure she would not hiss, scratch or try to bite you if she was not in such terrible agony...
Is there some type of hotline you can call or even someplace on the inet that you can get perhaps some info...My heart is aching for you as I know if one of my kitties got out and in such a situation I would be as devistated as you are...just thinking of it makes my eyes water...
Hun keep us updated...perhaps a neighbour or someone else can help you out as our pets are members of our families as I'm sure you already know...
My thoughts & prayers are with you and your kittie for a speedy recovory...
Hugs,
sisters |

Ok, Valeria, first thing is to relax. the cat can feel it through you.
Then keep re assuring the cat that all is fine.
Bring her food and water next to where she lays and keep assuring her that all is fine.
I do suggest that in 2 days she will come good, if not then a vet is worth a visit.
If after 2 days she still wont walk, then take her to the vet.
They are worth every penny. |

My dear Valeria,
I am soooo sorry, baby.
PLEASE call the vets you can and ask if they ever do any volunteer work on an injured animal! Most of them do.
Then ask them about transportation. Also call your local firemen about help with transportation in this case.
If you get no help, or even if you do, please let us know ASAP!!!
Your Guru, very serious and very concerned |

Val I use to foster animals and it sounds to me that she is in shock and needs to be kept very warm.like mirrors said some fresh water and food but sometime the local shelter will help with a vet if they know a animal is being well cared for.Personally I think your cat might have came up on a raccoon and I no longer let my 15 yr old cat out due to that as I have lost a few and the one I still have had her baby grabbed years ago by one and she fought and as you it was at night and all I heard was rustling of the leaves but my mama came back with her baby but carries a scar that makes her slobber from almost losing her bottom jaw.So keep faith and mabey try the shelter.my thoughts are with you.I just read a post about your kitty just the other day |

Well on a bright note finally. She is still sleeping a lot (which is good) but she has been moving around. She got up and moved at least 3 or 4 times today. I cut up some turkey very fine and gave it to her but of course her cat food and water dish are by her side. She let me pet her head and talk to her and seemed happy that I was touching her. I don't dare touch the rest of her yet.
Then last night very late I was sitting by her and she climbed up on the couch!!! Very slowly. It took her almost 3 minutes but she finally made it and slept again for awhile. Later she was back on the floor sleeping. She even tried walking to the bedroom which is just a few feet away but must have changed her mind when she thought about going up three stairs to the bed and came back into the room.
but she also made it to the litter box. It is looking better though she is still very bruised and sore. I still have concerns about her ribs or lower back sprain but she hasn't made a sound or cried when she moves. She is just very cautious and very slow. And she is still pretty much out of it but I thinnk that is natures way of helping her heal.
If she hasn't improved a lot in a couple days I will ask my daughter to take her to the vet. She gets paid then so if she can spare it she will be seen.
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I can't wait till she is sleeping in my bed again and cuddling. I think she misses that too. Tonight I might sleep in the living room to be in the same room as her. Maybe she won't get so lonesome though I doubt she will notice that much yet. |

Woohooo!! She made a remarkable comeback today! She is alert. Moving around much better. Last night I spent the night in the living room with her and she kept wanting to come up on the couch to cuddle but couldn't quite manage it. BUT as she lay on the floor beneath me and letting me pet her from head to tail! She is sitting now instead of just laying on the floor. She is walking better and farther.
I don't dare pick her up yet but she is letting me touch her and pet her - head shoulders along the back to her tail. I don't want to push my luck yet with ribs and stomach area.
Her eyes are sparkling again and she is actually THERE not just half conscious. So things are looking promising indeed.
Thank you all for your kind wishes!! |

That is such heartwarming news, Valeria!
It has been hard for me to stop thinking about you two.Because of the silence of the attack, I agree with Char that it was probably a raccoon. Don't think I would let her go out by herself anymore.
Both of you get over this and your chest cold now. Stay warm and drink plenty of water. And don't forget the medicinal value of chicken soup. |

I'm glad that she's up and about again. That had to be so scary, another animal fighting with her in the dark; I know you were beside yourself. It sounds as though she's making a good recovery, just be there with lots of love for her and I think she will be just fine. My thoughts are with you. |

Last update on my baby. She is doing great! She has slept with me the last two nights. Contastantly talking to me, DEMANDING my lap and loves. I am allowed to touch her all over and in fact she is insisting on it.
No ribs broken that I can tell. She does have two big lumps where whatever it was bit into her. One on each side of her spine toward the kidney area. This morning though I can only locate the one bump so the other must have drained during the night.
Yesterday she half heartedly wanted outside and I told her absolutely not. But not for long I am afraid. She enjoys the outdoors way too much.
She is talking and touching me constantly so I think she is going to be just fine!
Thanks all for your wishes, thoughts and caring. |
