Dear group.....and WHAT a group!
I have believed since I was a kid that if you can imagine it, you can do it! Research has since proved that to be a tool of winning!
In combination with that thought, we all know that winning cash prizes will do you no good unless you have the PC points to cash in!
Soooooooo..........CONTEST #3: Point Builder for substantial PC points.
May take a little dreaming and effort, but my PCers have no lack of either!
Describe a make-believe short poker game you entered and won!
Tell us the story about it!
GOOD THINKING FOREVER!
Your Poker Guru |

I am sitting at a 10 player No Limit table. I play close to a perfect game with constant wins till I am first in chips and hold the lead from round 4 till round 13. It is finally down to me and one other player.
I am dealt a pair of aces. The flop turns up ace ace king. It's the other players turn to bet and he goes all in. I have a fleeting moment of sympathy for him but it quickly passes as I happily call knowing the hand is mine. A little moment of panic sets in as a suited Queen on the turn shows up and then a suited 10 as it is possible for a Royal Flush.
With a smirk thinking he has won the game he lays down his pair of Kings thinking he has me with his full house of Kings over Aces. His face falls however, as he glances down and looks at my 4 Aces.
I walk away with the biggest pot I have ever played for and laugh all the way to the bank.
*Dreams are nice aren't they?* |

It was late August 1882, the temperature was over 100 degrees in the shade. I had come to the little cattle town of Porters Creek ,located about 50 miles west of Dodge City. I had been there several times before and I knew I could usually catch a game of Texas Hold'em at Diamond Lil's, a saloon famous for it's loose women and even looser poker players.
When I pushed my way through the swinging doors, the sounds of a lively piano and dancing girls filled the air.The eight tables were full of patrons enjoying cold brews and cheap whiskey, and there were 4 others standing at the bar taking in the activities. In the corner of the bar, away from the dancing stage there was a table with 5 players playing a ring game of Hold'em. I asked if I could join and was offered to take a seat. I took a seat with my back to the wall and a great view of the whole saloon.
I played for about 2 hours and had easily tripled my money, and now had well over eight hundred dollars in front of me. I couldn't help but notice a tall gentleman standing at the bar and looking our way. I could tell he was a wealthy gent, with his gold watch and diamond ring, and he was dressed to the nines from his leather cow kickers to his spotless white stetson that never saw a day on the dusty cow trails.
The gentleman walked slowly over to our table and introduced himself as Dan "Aces" Duggan, and asked if he could sit in. Just as he was sitting, Diamond Lil came over and whispered something into my ear.
We were playing 20/40 blinds and I was on the button.I dealed the down cards and everyone else folded except for Duggan who quickly raised the blinds to $100. I checked my cards and had hit pocket 8's. I called his $100 and the small and big blinds folded also. That left me and "Aces" in the hand. The flop came Ace,5,7 rainbow and Duggan quickly bet $100. The ace scared me but I called in hopes of catching a third eight on the turn. The turn showed 6 and although I hadn't hit the eight I now had an open ended straight draw. Duggan must have decided to try and get me out of the hand because he increased his bet to $200. After much thought and two shots of whiskey I decided to call his bet and re-raised the remaining $300 I had on the table. I figured him to be bluffing and hoped that this would end the hand with Duggan folding. Much to my consternation he never even blinked and called my all-in. I was now just about ready to end my career as a poker player. I was very relieved to see an 8 show up on the river. Duggan tured over his cards and showed an Ace and an 8. My trip eights had beaten his Aces and 8's.
I now had a total of $1600 in front of me so I called it a day since that was a lot of money in the 1880's.
Oh yes....I almost forgot....what had Diamond Lil whispered in my ear??? She told me that Aces Duggan comes to town about once a month and always plays one hand of Texas Hold'em. She also said that regardless of what cards he has, he bets high and increases his bet every card in hopes of getting everyone to fold.
C'mon now....you don't think I'd have stayed in with those eights otherwise do you?? |

Awesome a chance to BS.
After several years of trying I finally made it to the final table at the WSOP at the Palms Resort in Vegas. The first 3 days were extremely nerve racking and it took a lot of good thinking to make it here.Tempers flared at times but I kept my cool and I believe that's what got me through.
The last 2 sitting were Daniel Negraneau and myself. An all Canadian final .I knew well his ability to read people and actually be able to name the cards you have. This was gonna be tough.
I had about 60 % of the total chips. He wished me good luck and I promptly told him what I learned from my amazing Poker Guru.He agreed 98%.Oh well to each his own.
After several hands of passing chips and the lead back and forth I finally got 2 good cards.A/Q spades.Daniel bet 100,000 without hesitation before the flop.I just called after about 30 seconds.Daniel said "looks like we we have a game".I replied that this game started many years ago during my PC days.He said"Poker-Crush?I know that site but never paid much attention to the Guru lessons there."
The flop was a rainbow,Ah/Qd/10s.I bet 300,000.Daniel had his hands in a V formation over his mouth, softly whistling.Seen this many times and knew he was thinking hard."Wow,you're a brave one,and tough to get a read on too"he said."I call" he says, with that big friendly smile of his.I knew that when he does that he almost always wins.I wasn't so sure of my 2 big pair now.Maybe he already has the straight,or a pocket pair.
Turn came out showing the Qh.I was watching Daniels eyes and they twitched just a little bit.I was sure he had a great hand.Maybe he had the other 2 aces which would kill my boat.He says"you might have me but I'm not folding to a little old online PCer"He pushes all his chips to the middle of the table."All in" he states very confidently. Now that really got me thinking.I could feel what felt like a 3 pound bead of sweat sliding down to the bridge of my nose, knowing Daniel could see it.I knew I didn't have the nuts, but the odds were on my side.I've seen a lot of bad beats and this might be the biggest."I call".Daniel showed his KJh giving him a straight and a draw for the Royal.I was feeling pretty good with my full house now.Only one card in the deck that beats me.Daniel says he had me on trip Q's.The river came and it was the 7h.It gave Daniel his flush but not the elusive Royal. My first WSOP win,I won it 2 more times in the next 5 years.
Daniel sincerely congratulated me and said"Good Thinking".
Another convert for our Guru. |

Hmmm. You and me both, spookth!
Sometimes the BEST thinking I can do still leaves me puzzled. Oh well. Makes the competition less stiff.
I can't believe our members hate writing because they do so much of it and do it so well! So either this contest was easily missed OR they just don't need any points, all points-rich.
Some comments I gotta make about the entries:
Cindy: You are soooo full of it! LMBO!
Valeria: How many Aces were there in that deck? LMBO!
spookth: LMBO Grrrrrreat tale!
Bower: LMBO! Grrrrrr tale, also!
evergreen: You are eligible to make up a tale and enter this contest!
Good thinking always!
