STARTING POKER 102 LESSONS
Well, good friends, that day has finally arrived. Time to get down to the nitty gritty again. My goal is very simple.....and with the calibre of scholars I had last session for Poker 101.....it should also be very easy. I want just one small thing: to help my Poker Crushers become the best damn unbeatables online or in the house! It is soooooo possible!
Every time someone new starts to get into the posting discussion of your lessons, they seem to just automatically fit in and I am very proud of the way you help each other in reply posts. Sometimes you have had answers so good for someone that I have acually felt there was no need to intervene! Being a college prof before noticing how much more money I was making at playing poker, and therefore deciding to make the full committment and turn pro officially (it was actually the love of the game more than the money), I learned so well two big lessons.
One of them was that instructors of any subject, if their heart is in it, always learn at least as much from their students as vice versa. The other was that the greatest love of my life would always be teaching. No matter how much I loved the game of poker, I carried an everyday heartache with me always, in the form of a great big empty spot within me, so big that there were times when I am not ashamed to admit that this great big lumberjack-looking grown man would have to break down and cry ..... whether alone or in public.
My heart was finally mended one long holiday weekend when a group of my former students arrived on my doorstep, sleeping bags in tow. They knew no invitation was needed and had found out some way that I would be home. This kind of thing was not unusual when I still had a classroom at the university. I was always "a little different" they put it politely.
But this time they came to teach me the happiest lesson I had ever learned. I had kept up communications with a lot of them, and they actually were aware of my Big Hurt and had put their heads together to fill that empty place inside me. They came loaded with questions about everything in life you could imagine, and as we sprawled with pillows on the floor and talked and talked and talked.....they brought out out a beautiful wooden plaque and presented it to me. The words burnt on it are etched in my heart forever. It said, "To Our Guru, who we hope will always remember that you do not have to have a classroom to be a great teacher."
And here and now, with that memory, tonight my eyes are clouded with tears again. I had to tell you this part of my life, my friends, because as time goes by we seem to always lose touch with some of those who meant the most to us. It happened to me. And then there came a true miracle: When my dear, dear Poker Crush scholars turned to me with questions about my second love, Poker, you presented me with the greatest gift of all.....the best of both worlds.....While I am deeply involved in poker, you have placed me squarely in the position of my first love..... thanks to you, my scholars, this old guru is TEACHING AGAIN!
I believe you have made me the most fortunate person on earth.
And so I welcome you to the second term of our special International Poker Institute. Those of you who stick it out will be the first graduating class of what I hope we can together make THE place on the internet where everybody who is anybody comes to learn the "full knowledge method" of developing their poker skills to the highest possible level. There is no word for "luck" in our school vocabulary. That is for those little fish who lack the intellect and the courage to learn poker for what it is in the world of reality.....a field of knowledge and a full set of skills that takes inspiration and perspiration both to succeed! Pity the idiot who lazily and feeble-mindedly depends on luck to make him a winner.
I already have the winners. They are reading this right now. And they are my pride and joy!
New members, there is no need at all to worry about starting out behind anybody. The others will tell you.....I bring everything to your attention often enough that with a little study on your part, it becomes second nature to you. You have nothing to do to get "caught up" but to read all my posted feature articles so far. When or if you have a question about any of them, just post it and some star scholars will be quite able to answer.
Sorry that the first day of new classes became so personal. No! On second thought, I am not sorry a bit! This is a very personal subject you are studying, a challenging human endeavor, and we need to bring all the humaness to it we can!
On that note, I invite any of you with the desire, the courage, or the inclination, to post something personal in return. I can think of no better way to start out on this ambitious adventure together than by getting to really know one another. We are going to go far together!
Get your infamous two seperate notebooks in order and look for the next lesson to appear at any time in this thread!
Welcome to new members and familiar ones. Each of us has something unique to teach the others. Yours is deep within you, and in this class, you WILL find it. That is when your confidence, so necessary to being a winner, begins to rocket!
Thank you for allowing me this privilege. And thank you, Geno, for the same!

Nothing touches a persons heart more than a surprise gift as you received. It shows that you made a big difference in their lives and that is something we all hope to do. Make a difference in somebodys life for the better.
You should be very proud and pleased to have received such a gift from the heart. You have bettered there lives in a personal and individual way.
Those are the trophies I would display and be proud of more than any other. |

Dear Valeria..........
You DO understand completely! That is exactly how I feel.
Now I have to wonder, and you might be well-served to give this some serious thought as well, what was or is in your life that makes you so empathetic in this topic's field of feelings?
It must have triggered something in you, conciously or unconsciously.
Of course, you have the understood option of not answering this question, and I will find it very easy to identify with that.
Thank you for that VERY nice reply!

I was not given a trophy or a gift of a material kind. It was words of thank you for changing a persons life which I had not realized I did. This happened several times all because I took the time to listen to what they had to say. It was not even in person but online. One I talked out of a serious deep depression and gave them hope enough to do what they had to do to change. Another it was not as serious but a real problem for them. There are a few more but it was nice to know I made a difference in complete strangers lives to go on and become better.
That feeling was more satisfying than almost any other I have ever had. I have not even met these people in real life. But knowing I made a difference to them and made them happier gave me a feeling I can't describe.
I used to be in conversation with a LOT of people who for some reason always picked me to tell their troubles too. I listened. I did what I could to lift them up. Tried to give them confidence. Tried to give them ideas how to carry on or change what they had to change. It was very emotional.
But the thanks from the heart was a very satisfying thing and to know I made a difference. |

There is a bit more to it than that with things in my childhood and such I don't want to go into but the main thing is ... I made a difference. |
