Bits of Poker This 'n' Thats

It's full moon time. You may have noticed a bit more impatience and irratability around the poker tables or a little less frivolity and laughter.

I have noticed it in the lounges as well as at the tables whiloe traveling the circuits. In the cities, police departments report crime rates up and hospitals even report more suicides and other deaths during times of full moons.

What does that have to do with poker? Maybe nothing much. On the other hand, tables never seem quite as full. I personally believe it is because poker players are among the world's most superstitious people. For a game that depends so much more on skill than luck, it is surprising how many players carry their lucky this 'n' thats with them. I have one friend who always wears the same pair of socks and is afraid to change them, for goodness sakes.

Speaking of "always" things, in the very near future, I hope to have a regular schedule for my articles to appear here. Perhaps every Monday. Full moons and talk in the poker lounges willing.

One of the most recent topics of conversation among the pros who are constantly finding themselves together for good or bad, has been that of sponsorship of online gambling-related sites like Poker-Crush. As it becomes more and more common, the question always seems to come up of whether or not a pro's identity should be revealed. That ultimately depends on two things.

One consideration is whether the pro is for just publicity or is there primarily to give advice, as in my case. And if for giving advice, the second consideration comes up. That is the question of how much of their strategy or how many of their "secrets" they are willing to reveal.

In my case, I choose to reveal everything. From all my know-how to what goes on in places where hardly anyone but pros appear. Others choose to hold back part of their methods in hopes of not losing to those whom they have taught.

As you can imagine, those who hold back or are strictly for publicity purposes will have their full identities revealed. This does not mean that they hold back very much or that they do not teach a lot.

I, on the other hand, have always found it hard to watch or be careful about what I am saying. A lover of spontanious things, I talk loosely and openly about almost anything that comes up. Guess you might say, I talk liberally and play conservatively.

I hope that answers some of your questions about why I simply will not, now or probably ever, reveal my true identity. I would rather share everything I have ever learned with you, as I believe anyone accepting the role of guru should do.

I have learned recently of your latest tournament, which is to be TONIGHT, Thursday, February 16, at 6:00 P.M. Eastern time. This will be a buy-in event and will cost you at least one dollar and a few cents to enter. But in return, the winnings will be much higher. A fair trade-off. This event also happens at Club Dice Poker, where you must be a member but do not have to make a purchase of any more than you need to play in this tournament. A good idea, for now and in the future, would probably be their minimum purchase.

That is, unless you are also a member of Casino-Crush, in which case, it would be wiser to make a purchase of $50 so that you will have a ticket in their $5,000 drawing as well as one of their very valuable VIP points.

No matter how you do it, one thing is for certain. MUCH FUN IS ALWAYS HAD BY CRUSHERS AT ANY OF THEIR TOURNEYS!

Also, a little birdie told me there is talk of some regular table games coming up at Poker-Crush. Now, THAT will be a real humdinger of a good time for all!

The future, even the near future, promises real growth and many good things to come at Poker-Crush.com! I hope you are as excited about that as I am!

DrCrush is working his hind side off to make sure it happens, as is Mr. Geno. I'm sure they will be very appreciative of any help you can pitch in with, such as a membership drive or simply more posting with banners. In the end, the rewards will be shared very fairly, as always, with the CRUSHER membership.

I will not be long-winded this week. There are many individual posts to be answered. And much to search out for you for next week, hopefully earlier in the week and more hopefully, by Monday.

I will be observing TONIGHT at your tourney. BE THERE! No one that has been there before that I know of has EVER been sorry!

As Always, I am proud to be your

Excellent post PokerGuru!! and how right you are about the full moon!! On each and every full moon my son goes a little nutso...lol..and it is a given we will recieve either a call from school or hear of something.

This has been like it since we can remeber. I personally don't have any worries over this type of superstition at the tables but I know many who do.

So your article of the week was well done and should make some re think things through...lol

I am most grateful that you are pleased enough to respond, DrCrush.

I am also hoping that soon I will need glasses and better typing skills to keep up from a huge pile of responses from members or other readers. And that is MY dream!

I do have faith that day will be here soon, since our membership IS on its way up instead of going down!

Wouldn't it be GREAT if some of our loyal CRUSHERS would start a few individual membership drives among everybody they know???!!!

Thanks again. Good to know I have one reader anyway.

To our Poker Guru ~

Remember what notLOL said, Guru, bcause it is true.

There are many who read but just never or hardly ever post. So you probably have more people enjoying your articles than you think!

To DrCrush and notLOL ~

Could it be that the full moon affects YOU so that you just notice your children's behavior more at those times when it is full? LMAO

royalblush,
i must give my children their own individuality, for that is an actuality, they are themselves, and with this actuality i have to give them credit for their own actions, thus the teachers calling or neighbors tattling, or my own perception of whatever is going on. i accept responsibility for my own weirdness, which may occur during the full moon. good things usually happen for me during the full moon, well as far as i can remember. the seed was planted many many i dont know years ago, in reguards to the full moons affects on people and therefore we now have a unstable plant of "it could be because of the full moon" and still growing. hmmmmmm....now thats just my coupla extra sense beliefs, or as some understand it.....my two cents. wink

notLOL ~

I just typed my response to your post, giving you my take on your meanings (s because there were more than just one) and it took me so long that the system timed me out and I had to log in again and then could not find what I was typing because it had totally disappeared and was lost forever.

But I will repost my thoughts as soon as I gain back some ability to think, since the interpreting left me mentally drained. Be patient with me, okay? I AM following you and Wll get back to this.

it never ceases to amaze me how I can go thru the forum topics and see something I've missed repeatedly... like this really great post from our Guru. after reading that, it made me recall the very night after that interesting 3k entrant freeroll i was just in, and how hard it was to be patient, and level-headed and how i really called hands that normally i am more conservative on, like my "superstitious matches". when I laid down so very early that morning, I recall noticing the moon big and round thru my bedroom window... and for a brief moment took note of it, but quickly fell asleep, and am now inclined to recall that moon after reading our Guru's post. I have worked in transportation jobs over the years and industrial jobs, and have noted and had occasion to hear many stories as well as my own personal experiences. The hospital's basically "plan" for full ER's on full moon's as well as the natal units and neonatal unit's, along w/ an increased rate of injuries, there is also an increased number of births. Working closely w/ the public in a range of positions, I also have noted that people in general tend to be more spontaneous, and less mindful during full moons... ei... driver's are less likely to be patient or careful on those nights. However, there is usually a relatively higher level of cheerfullness and "wildness" as well. And to go outside the realm of "superstition" there is in fact direct scientific evaluation and data in regard to the relationship of the moon to the earth, proximity, fluctuations and changes in the gravitational field and forces, tidal occurances, atmospheric pressure etc and how this physically, biochemically and psychologically affects the living creatures on our planet... as well as the very air we breathe, and the weather and climates in our areas.

I also wanted to comment, and offer my sincerest gratitude, that some pro's such as our own Guru, at some point find the inclination to offer their vast knowledge and hard earned strategies and advice and overall valuable information to the rest of us. Whether (you) are one who remains anonymous or not, (your) presence and wealth of knowledge are greatly appreciated by the rest of us. TY! Very Happy

Ty also for your extreme openess and candor beit poker or otherwise. You are indeed a valuable asset both, to Poker-Crush, and to some of us personally. That same holds true in regard to Doc and to Geno, you are all of you appreciated for your work here, and your help, and your generousity. Very Happy

xoxo, Guru-groupie....... Poker-Crush lifer...... and now i have to admit, for less than usual reasons... poker-nut... Tammy.
