I am a very happy man today! Wouldn't you be if four out of the top seven players, including player #1, were your poker scholars and on the team you were coaching?
The above is the way I have answered all my friends who have asked about last night's freeroll.
I took that freeroll very personally. And I excitedly took the huge victory personally as well!
My Poker Crushers played beautifully! It was a sight to behold! Yet, I was not the least bit surprised. THEY know that is exactly what I expected out of them.
I don't think ANYONE would disagree that the MVP of the game was Beckie33. Beckie played a flawless game!
She even fell back once, but did she get nervous and play wrecklessly after that? NO WAY! Not our Beckie. She kept her calm, stayed focused on the game, and made a remarkable comeback! I was so impressed!
They went into that game intending to win. And I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt they could do it.
They blew me away! Before the game, I merely asked them not to overdo the chatting, but to stay focused. And not one peep was heard out of a single one of them! Boy! Were they ever focused!
I am as proud today as I have ever been on one of my own victories on the pro player circuit!
Those were my Poker Crushers out there, cleaning up on the rest of the field, and clearly walking away as THE CHAMPIONS they are!!!!
Winners again! Winners! Every one of them. As a group and as individuals!
I could not be happier with them or prouder!
GENO, HAVE A CIGAR! And a bottle of champagne to celebrate your new "baby" Poker Team!!!!!!!!!!!
PokerGuru, as proud as any "daddy" |

Poker Guru,
Here's a scenario that unfolded last evening. Tell me what you would have done differently.
I had about 3000 at about the 30 minute mark. JBILINNI had around 8000. I called the blind which wasn't too much at that time. I had K-4 D. I had 4 diamonds after the flop. I put out a small 200 bet and JB called. The tur did nothing and I rebet to see how interested he was. He called. River came 6D.I'm now holding a flush to the king with 3 diamonds on board. I forget my bet but I think it was about 6 or 800 . Some of my numbers might be off but I remember JB bet about 2800 which off course would put me all in. JB had already knocked out 5 people and I figured he due for a loss. I called and that was the end of my tourney. He held A-J D. I just couldn't muster the strenght to fold the King flush with only 3 diamonds showing? Any sage words from the Poker Guru?

Oh darn, Spookth, that is one of the toughest spots you could find yourself in. I've been there and I don't like being there at all!
You didn't play it badly. First of all, remember that.
But I would have played it slightly diffrently in 3 ways:
1. I would never count on anybody, even myself, as being "due" for anything. Remember that you play with consideration for only what HAS happened and IS happening........NEVER for what MIGHT happen because it is due. That is as deadly as a concealed bear trap!
2. When he came back with a bet high enough to make you fold or go all-in, I would never have bet it all on any flush unless I held the Ace. I had to learn the hard way, as I guess you are, that a flush, King high, is not worth the farm unless you know where the Ace is. And since we usually don't know where that Ace is, I would not have risked being taken out when I held the second highest instead of the highest card in my flush.
That is one way that would have been better to play it. It would have left you still in there to fight.
3. The other thing you could have done that would have been better, would be to have made a far bigger bet to him that probably would have convinced him that you had the Ace high flush. Then he would have folded instead of coming back at you so forcefully. Your 600 or 800 bet left you looking too doubtful to have had that almost-always-winning Ace high flush. He read that doubt in your bet, darn it!
You still have no reason to feel bad because that is one of the toughest spots you could find yourself in........one of the toughest spots ANYBODY could be in!
My bet is that you will do it differently next time. What do you think?
Your still proud-of-you PokerGuru |

Aww, Excellent poker scholar Mojo,
I was looking forward so so so much to the opportunity to watch our funny Mojo in serious action last night.
It breaks my heart that you were knocked out for technical reasons!!!! I might have been tempted, looking back and forth between that computer and the nearest window!
Next time, darlin'. Next time!
