KEEP IT SIMPLE
When you start to play poker, you will more than likely be playing low-limit tables. It does not require you to become a masterful poker player and you are able to outplay poor opponents. Beating players at high limits is more difficult, entailing many, many complex moves.
HOWEVER, Winning at low limits is pretty straightforward.
What do I mean?
Basically, other players won't be paying attention to you. They only care about their own cards; they don't care about you or your cards. They will play their hand as they always play their hand, regardless of whether or not you are in the pot.
You are basically a ghost to them... but hopefully you will be a ghost that's slowly taking their money!
If you want to beat them, you simply need to a play a straightforward game and it will win in the long run. For example, play tight, don't do any fancy bluffs, and bet aggressively when you probably have the best hand. Remember to utilize pot odds for all your drawing decisions.
Slowplaying can work with these types of players. They are easily fooled into thinking they have the best hand when they hit a pair on the turn, so giving them a free card when you hold the stone nuts can be to your advantage.
Don't expect to scare any fish at lower limits with an extra $2 bet, trying to bluff them into folding. These guys always want to see if they have the best hand, and sometimes will PAY just to see what you have, regardless what they hold.

ty for post and id agree it makes plenty of sense to me, its easier to win against beginners for all the reasons above, but just a warning , players should not be too confident of winning all the time as no matter how good your hand when you are playing unexperienced players you always get the ones that go all in with nearly every hand, and oh so often their luck gives them a winning hand even tho there cards were so bad, thats the one thing i hated playing tables for low stakes, too many players willing to go all in on every hand |

Yes Broxi I agree- YOU see those inexperienced "ALL-IN" players everywhere. At WSOP... they are rare to see at the final. Because "Luck" runs out eventually. |

You can make some pretty good pots off these low tables by how you bet or by what I call "stringing them along for the kill".
If I have a extremely good hand I think is going to win hands down, I make consistantly higher bets each hand, but not enough to spook them. Or I may skip a bet deliverately to let them think I am unsure of my hand and let them throw the bet out there.
Last hand I do a BIG bet and if they think I am trying to bluff or I have a weak hand because of the way I have been betting, they usually follow because they want to see what I have.
Can get some consistantly good sized pots this way on low tables. |

I am one of those people who just plays the hand I have. I rarely play agressively. usually I slow play for a while. |

Low limit tables is where real poker is played if you ask me. It takes more skill to win here because you don't have the mega pots and all in to rely on getting the big stack. Slow and steady will win the game and for inexperienced players that is the hardest thing to do, maintain some patience. In short I agree. Play tight and when you do bet a hand bet aggressively but remember to wait for the hand let it come to you don't try to make something out of nothing or you will be out.
Thanks for the contest these are my favorite it requires us all to think about poker, not just the prize..... |

I have learned a lot playing these tables and worked on the hardest thing for me - patience! I have made all those wrong moves, especially not paying attention and just playing the hand I had...but, now I find that when I take my time and focus, I have much better outcomes. I do however miss the crazy luck I found playing that way - seems like I lucked out way more than I should have!
Anyways, I knew I was making progress the day I realized that Ace - junk or King - junk were not winning hands that had to be played. Still learning but working on it! |

i have found low limit tables can be frustrating as players tend to call and/or play out most, if not every hand. and at times, more often than not, they would make a hand to win the pot as they call everything to the river. but that's not the frustrating part - the frustrating part is that i am wasting my time playing a game although still called poker - just not my type of poker. |

the thing i would add is that there are plenty of "donks" are higher limit tables too. watch everyone's play closely, find the weak players and expliot them. try to frustrate players and put them on tilt so they make bad calls and chase cards, often you have to play the player, not the cards |
