Possible Contest Idea!

I had an idea I wanted to suggest for a possible future contest. I thought I should post this in the Contest Forum, but I cannot create new threads there, so I thought it would also fit in here.

I had this idea while reading a recent post in the "Poker Story Contest" thread by Darrin6, who was inspired to break into rhyme when he posted a bit to add to our continuing, communal-effort, slightly-fragmented-yet-getting-funnier-with-each-post story!

I was truly AWED by this post!

Seems that among us is a poet, and we didn't even know it!

Or maybe this is a known fact to others, but it was news to me.

Darrin6, I'm not one to GUSH normally (really!), but apparently there are exceptions, and this is one! Your last addition to the story was just fantastic! The one that rhymes, I mean.
A' la "T'was the Nite Before Xmas".
You know the one.

I'd never have believed that you wrote it just off the cuff, right then and there on the spur of the moment, if I wasn't sure there was no way you could have done it otherwise.

But I am sure that was the only way you did it (that was the only way it could be done!) and so, as I said, I was amazed and impressed.

Did you already know you had this aptitude for poetry, or was this something new for you? It worked so perfectly, it'd be hard to believe if you said you didn't already know you were a born poet, a natural.

And funny too! But hey, that much everyone already knew!

OK, enough gushing, I think you understand that I think that post showed your real poetic talents, even in just those few lines. And even about such a silly subject too!

So, your inspired post inspired ME to suggest that we have a contest that somehow involves our members entering the contest by submitting an original poem, maybe just about poker in general, or any other subject, maybe about Poker-crush, the site! Or who knows what.

I think it would be a blast to read the entries; even the ones written by members who can't rhyme their way out of a paperbag (does that metaphor make any sense? hehee) Those could be really funny...

Incidentally, I'd be one of those less-than-poetic members, as you can see by my attempt at a poetic post to follow Darrin's post in the Story Contest.
The inspiration was there.... the talent, however, was not! But it was still fun to try. Just to see what you come up with!

Anyway, so there's my suggestion... if you think it sounds like fun, maybe one of our future contests can be something like that! I think everybody would enjoy it!

sounds like a good idea and I as you did was so impressed by darrins poem. i also noted he had to bring it right off the top of his head so fantastic job darrin and good contest idea sunspun....darrin wins lol Very Happy

No kidding, char1984! I'm getting the feeling that will be one tough decision - how is it that we have so many talented poets in our one little site? wink

Yes, Bower50, and yes, Royalblush, I loved 'em! I think this site and our happy camaraderie and all that INSPIRES you! And I see it's contagious as well. Who knows, maybe someday every post in the forum will rhyme! Rhyming or not, there's poetry in every post. Amazing things can happen when everyone's overflowing with inspiration and creative urges (and when surrounded by friends!)

Makes me smile to see our creative sides, so keep it up! Remember, amazing things ...!

And yes, Guru, it means a lot to know what you think of our ideas and everything else too! Thank you for giving us your opinion!

I love the idea! I used to write poetry all the time but it has been awhile.
Gotta get my thinking cap on!
