Well didn't win round 3 the last one darn it. First hand someone went all in and I was sitting with a nice AK so I called.... They had a pair of 10's and won! LOL So I was 10th out of 10 places
So Poker Guru... did I do the right thing? Give me your wisdom What would YOU have done? Would you have folded or have gone all in? Oh this was preflop! |

THAT's OUR VALERIA!!!!! BRINGING PRIDE TO POKER-CRUSH IN THE WAY SHE REPRESENTS US!!!!!!
First, Valeria, CONGRATULATIONS! It is never easy to finish in first place. But to do it twice in a row is just phenomenal!!!!!! Way to go!
About the third game ------ No, honey, I would never call an all in with less than a pair, even pre-flop. I can see that you thought 'Well, if he is bluffing, my high card will have his beat......and if he isn't bluffing, I still have a good chance of beating him with the two highest cards in the deck in my hand.'
In reality, you had at the very best, high card. You know that is the lowest hand with which you could possibly win. You made your mistake by relying on that thing I call a dirty four-letter word in my lessons : and you know but forgot for an instant what that is: L-U-C-K. You were hoping you be "lucky" enough to at least pair one of them up and at best to get a much higher hand than a pair. You were relying on LUCK -- the luck of the deal -- to bring you that good hand.
Now you know why I teach and preach that luck has nothing to do with playing poker. You must ALWAYS bet on what you already have (in this case HIGH CARD) and NEVER on what luck may bring you.
Using only your knowledge of the game and the skills you have learned, would you ever go all-in with a "high card" hand? Of course not. Calling someone else's all-in is the same thing as going all in yourself.
But FEAR NOT! You have gained more ver valuable experience. And I would lay you odds that you will never rely on luck again. Experience is the greatest teacher of all, and at least you have the guts to get out there and go after that experience.....and learn from it.....there,by being better today than you were yesterday!!!!
How could I be unhappy with that??????? All in all, you did GREAT!!!!!
I am very proud of you!
Your PokerGuru |

Thanks all! And Thank YOU Poker Guru for explaining that to me! Your right! I figured I could grab an ace or king and didn't think about the "High Card" aspect! I always heard besides AA that AK was the best betting hand and I went by that. It didn't even enter my head that he had a pair in his hand. I don't know why actually I didn't think of that because it is an obvious answer. LOL But yes I did learn a good lesson from that. Thank you!! Maybe next time I will win the last round 3 too!!
You know how you always say play "fresh" cool down, relax, walk whatever it takes to let you play your best? I have a real problem there with that because most of these freerolls I can play are soooooooo very late at night. We are talking my 1am to 3-4 am !!!!!! So I am usually pretty tired by then. But all and all I do well. Just think what I could do when I had my full facilites about me
So with your little pep talks and inside information on how to improve and explaining mistakes... maybe one day I can give you a run for your money!!! LOL |
