Yes, those of you who qualify as "teasers" or "kidders" or "jokesters" or "good-natured mischief-makers", I can have TWO whole philosophical thoughts some mornings. Razz

Here is one I pondered THIS morning.

Everybody is not dealt an Ace of a day. So the best we can do every day is play whatever card we hold the best that we possibly can.

Now I'm in a teaching mood again! So I can't close this post without passing on to you a little bit of something.

I think that, as the gentlemen and gentlewomen you can be when called for, and since "thinking" is such a big part of our program, I wil present to you a little Latin. Don't be insulted if you already are proficient in Latin or famous quotes. This is for those who will be soon!

Sooooo.....here is your Latin lesson of the day:

"Cognito, ergo sum!"

That assertion was made long ago by Descarte.

It fits all of us and it means "I think; therefore I am."

Of course, "am" in this instance, means "exist".

And that reminds me of one of my longtime favorite songs, by Neil Diamond, called "I Am, I Said". Anybody know it?

I love Neil Diamond.

"I am," I said
To no one there
An no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am," I cried
"I am," said I
And I am lost, and I can't even say why
Leavin' me lonely still

In an interview some time ago, Neil (I sing him so much at karaoke I feel we're on a first name basis...lol) said it was HIS favorite song as well.

"Did you ever hear of a frog who dreamed of becoming a king....then become one. Well, except for the names and a few other changes, if you're talking about me, the stories the same one..."

Shocked Smile Wow! No wonder we all get along so well together! We have so much in common. Honestly, I thought I was probably the only one who loved Neil Diamond's songs. I even thought I might be laughed at!
Wow, wow, wow!

That song, my favorite too, is really really deep and serious, just FULL of meaning, isn't it?

Do any of you identify with it, like I do? I think it is I who is saying that. Luv ya even more, my people!

Your Guru

Dear Char,

From my point of view, we don't stop listening to music when we get old; we get old when we stop listening to music.

Dance away, humming a Diamond song, while the moon shines in thru your window and lights the smile on your face! That is really living, not just existing!

My blessings.

Your Guru

P.S. Anybody else got any opinions to share about music and age?

Before I close, I must tell you that I had the shock of my life one day while I was still teaching at the university. That was the exact day I was all of a sudden no longer a young man. Here is what happened:

I was discussing music and performers with my students and I mentioned how much I liked a song by Cher. All got quiet and then one brave soul said, "You mean that old woman???" I know the blood drained from my face. I was far more shocked than they! I still saw Cher as a young and sexy singer! And still do!

But I think I can name that exact moment as the day I grew up.

Whoa. We are showing our bare souls to one another, aren't we?

Well, it beats talking about the weather or gossiping.

Which reminds me...........I once heard or read that the simple-minded talk about others; the average minds talk about things; and the intelligent minds talk about ideas. I agree. Do any of you?

Well I have always loved listening to Pink Floyd. I do not know what that might mean of me age or my demeanor lol. I find his music very awesome.

Now I am really shocked!

Other than The Moody Blues, Sable, Pink Floyd is my favorite!!! This is just becoming TOO coincidental!

I think I saw "The Wall" a couple dozen times!

Okay, anybody else have an opinion about Pink or the Moody Blues?

My favorite album of theirs is "A Question of Balance".

Too much! LMBO

Smile "Oh Yea" is exactly right, Char!

I think that was the best time ever for music. And we really found meaning in what the words said.

For the most part, I don't think the kids today can even hear the words!

But we have to give them credit for bringing our music back and adopting it for their own. They are more aware than most older ones give them credit for. In MY opinion

A lot of college age kids love some of our old music. I can attest to that as I run karaoke and some of their favorite songs to sing include "Sweet Caroline", "Folsom Prison Blues" and a lot of Beatle's songs. And, Guru, proud to say I have an original LP of the Moody Blues' Question of Balance. Very worn out from my teenage years! And be careful calling Pink Floyd just Pink....Pink is a hot new artist who, actually, is one of the few I like amongst today's new artists. Her stuff is pretty good.

This isn't about music (btw I love the Platters - really old huh hehe) but about Poker Guru's first opening comment.

I like to think that we are given a full deck of choices at the beginning of everyday but it is up to us to make it an Ace day Razz

Allight - I, too, have that original LP of "A Question of Balance". Reading your post made me feel good, like I was talking with a good friend and we have a lot in common. And I do think that most of us, if not all of us, do.

Valeria - What a wonderful thought! I see I'm not the only one here who likes to take my mind off the beaten track in search of new thoughts to ponder.

Proud to be Guru to both of you!

I love Johnny Cash! I'm not a country music fan in general, but I like him. And I found myself listening to Neil Diamond just the other week, can't say I really have before but it was quite nice. And Valeria, that is a great thought & a great way to look at thinkgs.
