Poker players are categorized into 4 main types. They are:
tight-passive
tight-aggressive
loose-passive
loose aggressive
Notice there are two words in each type, connected by a hyphen.
The first word represents how many hands the person plays or folds. Loose plays a lot. Tight folds a lot.
The second word represents the size of the person's usual bets.
Passive bets very small amounts. Aggressive bets bigger amounts.
Tight-aggressive is the type your Guru is. This is my style and the strategy I teach. I have tried all 4 ways of playing and kept good records of the results. That is how I know the best way to play is tight-aggressive. It has consistently and for several years allowed me to live a very comfortable lifestyle from nothing but my poker winnings.
You should play tight-aggressive and you should seek out the other 3 types to play against. That is how you will make the most money.

I think most generally I play tight -passive and trying to become more aggressive although I seem to be the quiet, hidden one they want to call once I do bet and so sorry for them lol.I feel getting some with my passive bets is better then all of them folding lol... |

Char, you precious thing and one of my best scholars --
Please remember that it does not have to be one way or the other!!!! Just try what I said on faith! They will not all fold!

good post guru....im bad as when i play a cash game i play very tight and passive because its my own money so i dont take chances and i know that after so long playing i can quit at any time with winnings if i have other things to do but if im playing a freeroll i have to admit i play all different styles....basically because im not actually losing money tho i know i will still not actually win money if i go out i tend to take a lot more chances than i would in a cash game...especially the longer the freeroll is going as sometimes some of them go so slow for such little prize money basically i get to the stage i feel well either im going out here or someone else is or im going to be here forever...and before anyone says i know thats not the way to play poker and ive got to learn to be more patient |

Broxi --
If you have followed my advice enough to be playing at cash tables some now (ring tables), then you are well on your way to the head of the class.
I know it is hard to wean yourself off of freerolls only.
But a real poker scholar's progress will proceed this way, no matter how long it takes:
1) freerolls only
2) freerolls and some buy-in tournies
3) buy-in tournies with a freeroll now and then
4) buy-in tournies and ring tables sometimes
5) ring tables with any kind of tourney now and then
6) almost all ring tables except for championship tournies or bounty tournies
So it sounds like congratulations might be due to you!!!

to be honest guru although im not great at poker i do prefer small stakes poker cash games to freerolls as then i can play for an hour or 2 then quit where some freerolls last for an eternity it feels...plus a lot of freerolls you have people that just go all in all the time no matter what cards they have and that bugs me ...but i should be changing the sites i play at as i normally play at ladbrokes poker just because its the same account as my casino and sports betting but i know there are far better sites as illustrated on here that should be getting my hard earned cash |

Excellent Info!! I think I play, probably unfortunately too, just like I do in life, passive-aggressive-passive-aggressive, on and on...
But, I do MOST always when I remember WHY I am playing(<--yikers, but true!!) to play TIGHT. But, I do notice players noticing it. |
